How to store green onions?
If you’ve ever grown your own green onions, you know that they grow fast! Store them in a cool, dark, dry place with good air circulation. For longer storage, cut off the roots, wash them, and replace the green leaves with dry paper towels.
If you don’t have a plan for how to store green onions, you’re likely to end up with a bunch of uneaten bulbs (or worse yet, moldy ones!) Storing them properly will keep them fresh and tasty for weeks. To do so, place them in a cool, dry, dark place with good air circulation. A windowsill works great.

How to store green onions in the fridge?
To keep them fresh for a few days, place the bunch of green onions in a plastic bag and store them in the crisper drawer of your refrigerator. This will keep the greens from drying out. You can also store them in a glass of water.
Refrigerator storage will keep the green onions fresh longer and prevent them from turning less appetizing than they are when they’re still tender and crisp. To store them, place the trimmed green onions in a plastic bag, add a tablespoon or two of water, and refrigerate for up to five days.
When you’re ready to use them, simply drain the water, dry the green onions off, then enjoy!
How to store green onions in the cupboard?
Store your green onions in a clean glass jar with a tight-fitting lid. You can add about 1 inch of water to the jar, just to keep the onions from drying out. Don’t use any other aromatics like vinegar or spices. Be sure to label the jar and date it. You can store the stems, roots and leaves of green onions in the refrigerator in a plastic bag.
To do so, snip off the roots, wash them and dry them. Put the sliced green onions in a plastic bag. Add silica gel packets and store in the crisper drawer. You can also add a layer of sand. The sand helps retain moisture and keep the roots from drying out.

The raw onions should be stored in the refrigerator in a crisper drawer or vegetable crisper. If you are storing them for a long time, you can also put them in a water bath (see below).
