Why am I so thirsty at night?
The reason we get so thirsty at night is because of a drop in body temperature. Since humans and other warm-blooded animals have evolved to be active during the night, we need a drop in body temperature to cool down. In order to maintain this lower body temperature, we drink more fluids to cool down.
Plus, during sleep, we don’t use as much energy as we do when we’re awake, so we don’t use as much water to cool down. There are a variety of reasons why you might be experiencing night-time thirst. If you are not drinking enough during the day, you are more likely to experience thirst at night.
Your body is awake and working hard to use up energy stores, so it is working harder to get water. If you are not keeping yourself well-hydrated during the day, you are more likely to experience dehydration at night.
Why am I so thirsty after a workout?
When you work out, your body produces more of a specific type of antidiuretic hormone (ADH), called vasopressin. ADH is a hormone that helps regulate water levels in the body, and it’s also responsible for dilating the blood vessels in your skin, allowing more blood to flow into your muscles and increasing the rate of cooling.
After a good workout, your body is more dehydrated than before. The combination of increased sweating and the need to replace lost fluids makes you more thirsty. After you’ve cooled down, drink water to replace the lost fluids. If you’re still feeling parched, add some fruit juice or sports drink to your water.

The body is used to holding onto water overnight in an effort to prevent any unwanted temperature shifts, so when we wake up in the morning to a chilly room, our bodies are a little thirsty. People start to drink more water at night because your body has to work harder to retain water. In the morning, your body is more dehydrated.
Dehydration makes your mind feel groggy, and it takes longer to wake up. Plus, your body temperature is lower at night, so you’re more likely to feel thirsty than in the afternoon.
